Oceans Ltd. operates a 24/7 weather forecasting office from its St. John’s location with an additional weather office at its Halifax location. Currently, the company is the major provider of weather forecasting services to the oil and gas industry in Atlantic Canada.


Oceans Ltd. is seeking applications for a weather forecaster for the St. John's office. 


Minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree in meteorology, or a bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics or related science along with a diploma or certificate in meteorology from an approved university.  The successful candidate should also have a minimum of 2 years experience forecasting in a marine environment.

Additional assets include:

  • professional training through the Meteorological Service of Canada (or equivalent)
  • Experience in report writing
  • Experience in preparing extreme value analysis’
  • Proficiency in high level computer programming languages (particularly C/C++) and research abilities are desirable.
  • Ability to work shift work

The ability to work shift work is essential.

Tenure Track Faculty Position in marine biology - Poste en océanographie biologique (ISMER 19-01);jsessionid=81A5A539A71760D1C60866D39843F50E?careerId=1918 The Institut des Sciences de la Mer de Rimouski (ISMER), is looking for a candidate to fill a regular faculty position in marine biology, specialized in ecology and physiology of fishes (especially exploited species), using physiological, biochemical and molecular tools.

The successful candidate should demonstrate expertise in field research. He/she will be encouraged to develop his/her own research program, and collaborate with biologists, chemists, physicists and geologists from the Institute and the University. He or she must be able to contribute to the M.Sc. and PhD programs through teaching and graduate student supervision. Working language is French. While all applications will be considered, with equal qualifications, priority will be given to candidates able to work in French.

The candidate must have a PhD in Biological oceanography, marine ecology or biology, zoology or biology with a thesis in marine ecology, with research fields in marine ecology, ecophysiology, or aquaculture.

L’Institut des sciences de la mer de Rimouski (ISMER), un centre de recherche multidisciplinaire en océanographie, est à la recherche d’un nouveau professeur en écologie marine. Le candidat choisi devra être spécialisé en écologie et physiologie des poissons. Les domaines d’expertise recherchés sont l’écologie des poissons, particulièrement des espèces exploitées, par l’utilisation d’outils physiologiques, biochimiques et moléculaires. Il sera encouragé à développer son propre secteur de recherche et sera amené à collaborer avec les géologues, les physiciens et les biologistes de l’ISMER et de l’UQAR. La personne retenue devra être en mesure de participer aux programmes de maîtrise et de doctorat en océanographie par l’encadrement d’étudiants aux cycles supérieurs. La langue de travail est le français.

Au moment de l’embauche, le candidat devra détenir un doctorat dans une discipline pertinente (océanographie biologique; écologie ou biologie marine; zoologie ou biologie avec thèse en écologie marine), au moins une année d’expérience postdoctorale et un solide dossier de publications.

Under the general direction of the Section Head, this position is responsible/required to conduct technical review of new and existing sources of air contaminants; provide interpretation of ambient air quality data for environmental protection and air quality management; provide scientific and technical expertise on air quality issues and carrying out applied research programs aimed at understanding existing and emerging problems; formulating programs and alleviating air quality problems. Duties include evaluating the impact on the environment of new or existing sources of air contaminants, providing expert advice on air quality complaints and making recommendations on ambient air quality monitoring requirements during permitting and environmental assessment processes.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Technical Diploma and 5 years directly related experience, which includes 3 years’ experience in air quality management.

Directly related experience means experience in all of the following areas:

  • designing data acquisition programs to assess impact of point and non-point sources of air contaminants
  • providing interpretation and assessment of emissions and meteorology on ambient air quality for environmental management
  • writing technical reports and memos
