The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering, York University, invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Atmospheric Science to commence July 1, 2018. We are seeking outstanding candidates with a strong research focus and the ability to teach Atmospheric Science and will consider candidates who specialize in experimental, theoretical or modelling aspects. Research areas that would complement current activity in the department are climate feedback processes, atmosphere-surface interaction, air quality, atmospheric dynamics and planetary atmospheres. Candidates must demonstrate excellence, or promise of excellence, in teaching and scholarly research and have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or a related field. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, and must be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies

The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at McGill University is seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, with an accompanying Canada Research Chair Tier 2, to strengthen its component in physical oceanography. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an active research program, supervise graduate students, and teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. A Ph. D. in physical oceanography is required.

It is expected that the successful candidate will pursue research in physical oceanography with a strong modelling component. A focus on polar regions, including the Southern Ocean, and on changes in the cryosphere and biogeochemical cycles driven by ocean mesoscale and submesoscale is strongly desired. The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences has strong ties with Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry, and Earth System Science. The Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources, University of Manitoba invites applications for two (2) Canada Research Chairs (CRC) - Tier 2: one in oil spill science and one in sea ice modelling. The Government of Canada has established the CRC program to enable Canadian universities to foster world-class research excellence. The proposed CRC aligns with the University's strategic research plan that identifies as a targeted area. All Chairs are subject to review and final approval by the CRC Secretariat. If successful at obtaining a CRC, these will be full-time tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning November 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Successful candidates will become members of the Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS; With more than 125 researchers, students and staff, including one Canada Excellence Research Chair and two existing CRCs (both Tier 1), CEOS is one of the most influential Arctic research groups in the world. CEOS’ research is supported by a purpose-built Nellie Cournoyea Arctic Research Facility; laboratories for environmental and material sciences and applied electromagnetics; the Sea-ice Environmental Research Facility (SERF); the CMO; the CCGS Amundsen icebreaker; and numerous field stations across the Arctic. The Arctic Science Partnership ( between CEOS, the Arctic Research Centre at Aarhus University (Denmark), and the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources provides added opportunity for networking. The Riddell Faculty ( is the institution’s hub for environmental and Earth System Science research and teaching, focusing on identifying and understanding processes, managing resources and assessing implications for ecosystems and human societies.


Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain a vigorous and independently funded research program that will be highly collaborative and involve local, national, and international partners. The successful candidates will be expected to play a major role in the Genome Canada project GENICE (, Churchill Marine Observatory (CMO), and other collaborative Arctic marine programs at the University of Manitoba.


Successful candidates will have proven success in obtaining external funding, a record of mentorship of undergraduate, graduate and/or postdoctoral level trainees, and recognized as excellent emerging world-class researchers in interdisciplinary scholarship in oil spill science and sea ice modelling.

Successful applicants will be nominated for a Tier 2 CRC supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and must develop a research plan focused in the broad fields of oil spill science and sea ice modelling. Examples of suitable research areas include, but are not limited to, fate, effects, mitigation, or detection of oil or other transportation-related contaminant spills, coupled ocean-sea ice-atmosphere modelling for both dynamic and thermodynamic modelling of sea ice.

The selected candidates must compete successfully for the Tier 2 Chair award that supports the position.  Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e. candidate must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination).
