Serge Desjardins

Serge Desjardins is a young retiree from Environment Canada. He started his career as a meteorologist in 1988 in Halifax. After 3 years as a junior operational forecaster, he applied for a Master degree and did his thesis with Dr. Peter Zwack in Montreal.  When he came back to Halifax, he worked on various scientific projects, especially one with Val Swail that led him to be offered an assignment at Dorval in the research division with Dr. Jocelyn Mailhot.  This project opened the door to become an important play in the implementation of the National Labs to which the one in Atlantic which focus in marine meteorology.  He became manager of the Marine Lab and occupied this position for 5 years.  In the final 5 years, his strong interest on developing a service oriented client brought him to accept an assignment as Service manager and then an acting position as Associate Regional Director for Prediction Services Operations Marine-Ice East for 2 years. 

Serge is also quite involved in the French community in Halifax.  The biggest achievement in his volunteer work in this community was the implementation of the French community radio in Halifax in 2007 as president-founder.  He is currently president and member of the choir Les Voix d’Acadie.  Finally, he is now exploring his more artistic side by spending more time in music, perfecting his guitar and learning piano while still continuing volunteering in various communities.
