The  CMOS - Weather Research House NSERC Scholarship Supplement  is awarded to a student in atmospheric or ocean sciences who has succeeded in winning an NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship or an NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship.  

This supplement provides support to high-calibre students who are working towards a master's or doctoral degree in atmospheric or oceanic sciences. CMOS grants one new award each year.

The initial award is $5,000.  This is renewable for a second year provided the student continues to hold the NSERC postgraduate scholarship.

At the time of application for the scholarship supplement, the student must be studying or planning to study atmospheric or oceanic sciences in a recognized postgraduate program. All branches of atmospheric sciences, including hydrology, are acceptable. In the oceanic and limnological sciences, biological research is not accepted, unless it is as an indicator of physical/dynamical/chemical processes.

This scholarship was first awarded in 1998.  

Note: At the time of application for the scholarship supplement, the applicant must be holding an NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship or an NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship.

Applications are to be received no later than 20 April (of the year in which the applicant is awarded the NSERC Scholarship) by the Awards Coordinator at e-mail:   awards-coord@cmos.ca  or the Society postal address to be considered by the selection committee. There is no special form. The following are required:

1. A cover letter clearly indicating that this is an application for the CMOS-Weather Research House NSERC Scholarship Supplement.  This letter should include a current civic address, phone number(s) and e-mail address of the applicant. If it is likely the applicant will be changing address during the year, it is suggested that a more permanent address and telephone number (e.g., home) be included as well.
2. A copy of the applicant's notification of Award from NSERC
3. A copy of the applicant's successful scholarship application.
4. A two-page (12-point font) résumé decribing the applicant's career goals and academic and extracurricular activities that support his/her interests in meteorological or oceanographic research. 
5.  A statement of endorsement from the research supervisor describing why the applicant is particularly suitable for meteorological or oceanographic research.
6. Electronic format (e.g., pdf) is preferred; however, hard-copy material will be accepted.
7. Receipt of submissions will not be acknowledged unless requested. Acknowledgement when requested will be by e-mail.

This supplement was initiated by Weather Research House, Inc. and is co-sponsored by the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS). The first year of the award is entirely funded by Weather Research House, Inc. for which CMOS is extremely grateful. The second year is funded through the CMOS Scholarship Fund.
